About Jimmy Fishbeck
Jimmy Fishbeck is the owner of Fishbeck Innovations LLC, a general contracting firm based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. His background spans construction labor, estimating, scheduling, project management, building engineering, and general contracting. He has assessed properties, supported real estate investors and property managers, provided construction consulting, and renovated his own home.
How I learned the trade
Jimmy learned construction by working directly alongside skilled tradespeople and studying their methods firsthand. That experience shapes how he estimates cost, sequences work, and identifies problems before they escalate.
He remains actively involved in the field, self-performing demolition, carpentry, drywall, and painting, and engaging experienced subcontractors for specialized trades.
How I work with clients
Every project carries different priorities. Some clients require refined finishes and are prepared to invest accordingly. Others need a property brought to functional condition, prepared for resale, or recovered from a budget overrun. Jimmy identifies those priorities, presents the tradeoffs clearly, and builds a plan grounded in the client’s actual objectives.
Three generations in construction
Jimmy’s family background spans the trades, design, education, and construction leadership. His grandfather, Roy Fishbeck, represented painters through their local union for many years. His other grandfather, Earl “Sarge” Mahwald, was a master electrician and longtime electrical instructor at Saint Paul College who continued working in the field well into his later years.
His uncle, Gary Fishbeck, owns a landscape architecture firm in California. His aunt, Lisa Mahwald, built her career in interior design. His godfather, Brian Miller, owned a cabinet and woodworking shop, and James Mahwald worked as a union rough carpenter. His father, Jim Fishbeck, served as vice president at Kraus-Anderson Companies before co-founding and later serving as president of CoBeck Construction.
That family history introduced Jimmy to the industry early. His own experience shaped how he runs Fishbeck Innovations today: understand the work, plan it carefully, respect the people performing it, and take responsibility for the commitments made to each client.
Outside of work
Jimmy enjoys home improvement, lawn care, exploring new technology, 3D printing, sports, and fantasy football.
